Betway Review

Betway began life in 2002 as part of the wider Betway Group which also encompasses separate bingo and casino sites such as Spin Casino and Bingo on the Box.

Based and licensed in Malta, the firm also operates out of Guernsey and has support offices in London, Cape Town and the Isle of Man.

Betway made a name for itself at the beginning of the 2015/16 season by becoming the principal sponsor of West Ham United. This means that the Betway logo will be on show around the Olympic Stadium, the home of West Ham from 2016/17. It also sponsors the Davis Cup and Fed Cup in tennis, whilst in horseracing it sponsors the Queen Mother Champion Chase; the high profile race at Cheltenham Festival provided Betway’s first foray into racing sponsorship.

Another major sponsorship deal for the bookmaker is in darts in the form of the Betway Premier League. This was a three year agreement which began in February 2014. Betway also showed its forward thinking and innovative nature by sponsoring the UK’s largest esports tournament in October 2015, the ESL UK Premiership. In the snooker too it’s invested by signing up to become the UK Championship for three years from April 2015.

Brand ambassadors include veteran jockey Richard Johnson and two-time Irish champion jump jockey Davy Russell.

Betting markets

A huge range of markets, with over 30,000 offered it includes a number of more niche sports such as Futsal, Pesapallo and Bandy to name just a few.

It has some markets in esports, which it’s making a name in and accordingly it features prominently along the main toolbar, but in reality Betway remains some way behind the offering of market leader Pinnacle Sports in terms of variety of esports markets.

Inplay betting

Inplay features directly alongside sports on the top toolbar. There are numerous inplay markets, though the layout here is a little off putting with selections down the left hand side as well as too many shown at once in the centre.

It also includes live streaming options including racing and the Bundesliga.

Usability of the site

The site is particularly easy to navigate, and you’re able to check ongoing and past bets with ease as well as account details and banking. The bet slip is excellent in that it’s clear and big enough to read but doesn’t get in the way, and it’s extremely responsive. The bet slip dynamics is something that is often overlooked but it’s pivotal to an end user’s enjoyment of the product and Betway does it very well.

The sportsbook is available in 17 languages which gives it a nice boost over some rivals and opens it up to a wider customer range. The ‘Plus’ section is one which also adds to the Betway product. This is a page which shows all the latest offers and promotions, and breaks them down into easy to read categories.

The Betway Insider blog is an example to other bookmakers as to how a bookmaker blog should be done. Well laid out and with frequent knowledgeable articles on multiple sports, it includes betting tipster columns, opinion pieces and more. The Betway mobile offering lets it down slightly in that it can be tricky to navigate and focuses too heavily on inplay markets. There’s an app on both Android and iOS which is designed in the same way as the mobile offering, and could be far better.

Its customer support is impressive in that it’s available 24/7 via email, live chat and by phone.

Conclusion

A navigable site which is designed well for ease of use and avoids having to get to know the layout to establish basics such as checking betting history and open bets. The site is available in a range of languages, customer support is reliable and 24/7, and both the blog and promotional plus section are nice add-ons.

It’s quickly shedding its past shoddy reputation and Betway has improved much in the past year as it backs up its recent extensive sponsorships with an increasingly strong product. Improvements are there to be had particularly around its mobile offering however, which is for many users the primary method of placing bets.
