Jenningsbet is one of the UK’s largest independent retail bookmakers with over 100 locations spread throughout the country, in addition to its online sportsbook.
The company was founded and licensed in May 1961 making it Britain’s oldest betting company. Its HQ is in Harlow, Essex. It currently employs over 500 members of staff and has established itself as one of the an innovative and competitive bookmakers on the modern day high street.
Jenningsbet is a member of the Bookmakers Technology Consortium (BTC), and its platform is used by other independent betting companies including McBookie, Setantabet and Wilsonbet. This platform is a white label offering with Jenningsbet supplying support services. Jenningsbet is a member of the Association of British Bookmakers too, and Chairman of Jenningsbet Greg Knight serves on the council.
In February 2016 Jenningsbet signed a three year deal with Best Gaming Technology (BGT) which will see it providing a further 40 betting terminals to the bookmaker. It has not gone down the route of finding a celebrity ambassador to promote its product, and there are no major sponsorships of teams, leagues, players or tournaments at this time.
Betting markets
It is something of a no frills bookmaker, and this is by no means a criticism. It’s better suited to the layman gambler, it’s simple and straightforward with not a huge amount of markets offered.
Football is its focus and it offers reasonably extensive markets here but still less than others offer. That said most bettors are unlikely to be interested in the German fourth division and such a breadth of markets is not altogether necessary for the most part.
It offers an increasingly common Acca Protection, with a money back guarantee if one lets you down on a five match minimum accumulator.
Jenningsbet is sport focussed and whilst it does have some politics and novelty markets these are very tricky to find, listed collectively under Specials. The range of these markets is unsurprisingly limited, and this is a sports focussed bookmaker. To its credit it does offer markets in sports including MMA and some esports.
Inplay betting
A range of sports covered but the amount of actual live markets within them is limited, even football there are less than other competitors are putting out.
Usability of the site
The site is somewhat brash and its bright green colour scheme poorly chosen and off putting. If you’re able to move past this it’s quite simple to use. The navigation bar is in your face and unmissable with clearly capitalised sections. Graphics are simple, though many bettors are likely to prefer this more old school site which avoids video and other add ons which can negatively affect loading times and general site usage.
Scroll down and in the centre it shows you the amount of current inplay markets in across its offered sports. On the left is a search bar and below this is a Quick Picks section which features mostly the top football leagues.
Payments options wise, the main debit cards are accepted as are Skrill MoneyBookers and Neteller but not Paypal at the time of writing. Customer support is available via email, phone and by chat 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The customer support team is both responsive, during the test a response was received within 20 seconds, and helpful.
Interestingly, and somewhat strangely in this day and age, Jenningsbet has a main section on the site dedicated to listing all of its shop locations throughout the UK. Evidently it’s proud to be a major retail bookmaker, and truth be told, it’s a nice addition.
More evidence of its old school nature is the fact that, again at the time of writing, it has no app on either Android or iOS. It has a mobile site but having no app is certainly a minus in usability terms.
Conclusion
Old school with no app yet available and a not-so-sleek, obnoxious and simple site, many may claim the bookmaker is in need of a rebranding. There is space for some innovation certainly, but having been in operation since 1961 it’s gained a loyal following as a reputable bookmaker and must be doing something right. It means your money is in safe hands and any promotional deals will be followed through with.
If you’re not a professional gambler and prefer to focus on the big sports markets and the popular betting markets within them, Jenningsbet is for you. It’s simple to use offering will certainly appeal to some, though the more picky gambler may want to look elsewhere.
