Betdaq Betting Exchange Review

Online betting exchange BETDAQ was set up in 2000 and began trading in 2001.

BETDAQ is the name selected by parent company Global Betting Exchange Alderney Limited (GBEA). BETDAQ has a commission rate of 3% and is the second largest betting exchange (Betfair is first) with a 7% market share.

The operator is based in Dublin, Ireland and was acquired by Ladbrokes PLC in 2013. The fee paid was reportedly in the region of €30m. It has grown substantially and now has over 200 employees globally. Successful Irish businessman Dermot Desmond founded the firm; he’s also been a major shareholder in Celtic FC and Man Utd, as well as numerous business stakes outside of the world of sport such as the London City airport which he sold on for a huge profit.

In summer of 2011 BETDAQ became the official betting partner of Celtic FC. It’s in horse racing not football however that BETDAQ has focused the majority of its sponsorship efforts.

In early 2011 a ‘six figure deal’ was agreed with Kempton Park Racecourse. This meant that BETDAQ would become the sponsor of 176 races that year and its customers would gain special privileges and promotions such as free entry on Wednesdays. This partnership was extended the following year and new racecourses included Carlisle, Exeter, Warwick, Wincanton, Huntingdon, Market Rasen and Nottingham.

BETDAQ operates a Twitter presence with a solid following of 13,000 though this still falls hugely short of Betfair’s 140k plus.

Betting Markets

In addition to politics and virtual sports BETDAQ runs some in-depth markets on a decent, if not extensive, range of sports. All the betting markets BETDAQ offers are listed here: Horse Racing, Soccer, Greyhound Racing, Tennis, Cricket, Golf, Darts, Rugby Union, Rugby League, American Football, Baseball, Basketball, Ice Hockey, Formula 1, MMA, Boxing and GAA.

In-play Betting

BETDAQ is a good place to bet live. It has live streaming, mostly on horse racing, and customers have the option to cash out too.

The layout is great and players on the BETDAQ mobile app can access all the same excellent live betting features.

Usability of the site

BETDAQ focuses on functionality more than presentation and users are able to get the hang of it quickly. There are two microsites within the main tabs; these include BETDAQ Tips with previews and content aimed at general bettors and sports fans and the far more specifically targeted BETDAQ Trading Tools. This is aimed at providing serious bettors with software to educate them in how to bet professionally; it’s incredibly in-depth and will be too much for the vast majority of BETDAQ customers.

BETDAQ mobile is excellent in that there are two well designed apps for iOS and Android respectively whilst customer support is solid too. It’s available via email, live chat and over the phone. You can email via the form on the site and there’s a useful Help Center too with a number of FAQs. The live chat is only available 10am - 6pm daily which is a bit frustrating.

Conclusion

BETDAQ is the world number two online betting exchange and it’s understandable why with great brand visibility, live streaming and a functional site.

The sign up offer is okay but could be made more inviting, BETDAQ mobile is a highlight and it’s also a good place to learn about betting on exchanges and getting good previews in general on the blog section.
